Green Thumb? Entries now open for North Sydney Council’s annual garden competition!
Has the pandemic helped you discover your green thumb? Or are you a long-time lover of gardening?
Entries are now open for North Sydney’s annual Garden Competition via Council’s website.
Whether yours is an indoor garden, shared garden or children’s garden – this is a great opportunity to share your joy and go in the running for some great prizes and awards.
This year’s Garden Competition has been tweaked to ensure a CovidSafe event – judges will not be physically visiting gardens and competition categories have been modified to provide more opportunities to participate.
Entrants are instead asked to submit a short video or photos to enter.
North Sydney Mayor Jilly Gibson said that she expects this year’s gardens to stand out in a unique way against the backdrop of difficulties we are facing as a community.
“Even before the pandemic, gardens and gardening have provided the community with downtime and respite from the stresses of life. Gardening continues to be medicine for the soul and beautiful gardens lift our spirits and inject breath into our daily lives.
“Gardening has taken off during COVID-19 and I’m curious to see what has been blossoming and sprouting all around North Sydney.”
There are 12 garden entry categories:
Balcony, courtyard, indoor garden, front garden, back garden, shared garden, children’s garden, native habitat garden, edible garden (private), edible garden (public), Lex and Ruby Graham prize (individual) and Lex and Ruby Graham prize (group).
Usually the Garden Competition culminates in a special awards night hosted by Gardening Australia host Costa Georgiadis.
Details of the Awards Presentation format will be released closer to the date but be reassured, regardless of the format, Costa will be there to celebrate and entertain!
Competition entry is now open until Friday 11 September, via the Council website.
