There’s something truly magical about May Gibbs’ Nutcote – and on Sunday, 16 November, her harbourside home will come alive with the charm of Australia’s favourite bushland characters for the much-loved Gumnut Fair.

Set for its biggest year, the annual fundraiser promises a day of family fun, creative play, and a generous dash of nostalgia as the community celebrates the centenary of the enchanting Kurraba Point cottage.

The historic property will transform into a wonderland of roving Gumnut characters, with story time sessions and a sausage sizzle.

From 11am to 3pm, the historic property will transform into a whimsical wonderland with roving Gumnut characters on hand for photos, greetings … and a bit of mischief.

Storytime sessions will take place at 11:30am and 1:30pm in the harbourside garden, alongside special appearances from local children’s author Serena Geddes, who’ll host colouring activities and book signings.

Young visitors can also enjoy face painting, pose on the Bush Babies Throne, and capture picture-perfect moments in front of May Gibbs-themed backdrops, designed to bring the pages of her beloved books to life.

Fairgoers can indulge in homemade treats, enjoy a sausage sizzle or the famous scones with jam and cream, and browse the Nutcote shop for May Gibbs and Australian-themed Christmas gifts.

This year’s show-stopping highlight is a limited-edition May Gibbs’ Nutcote Gingerbread House, a beautifully crafted festive centrepiece complete with a miniature Scottie dog in the garden … perfect for gifting or keeping.

Supporting May’s Legacy

The Gumnut Fair is Nutcote’s largest annual fundraiser, supporting the preservation of May Gibbs’ home and her artistic legacy.

This year, proceeds will go toward restoring and reframing rare artworks by the late Peter Kingston, featuring lovingly hand-coloured scenes from Gibbs’ world.

“Every donation helps us protect May’s story for future generations,” a Nutcote spokesperson said. “It’s a community effort that keeps this special place alive.”
