Want to buy a hotel? Manly’s Q Station is looking for a new owner and Justin Hemmes is keen!

Pub and Restaurant King Justin Hemmes is said to be sizing up the hotel leasehold on the historic Quarantine Station in Manly.

Known as Q Station, the majestic parcel of Sydney Harbour waterfront has a lease value of $20 million and runs until 2051. Mawland, run by property veteran Max Player and business partner Suzanne Stanton, took over the lease in 2006, which is now under the care of the National Parks and Wildlife Service.

Sydney Pub baron Justin Hemmes is said to be eyeing off Q-Station.

Located just 20 minutes from Circular Quay, Q Station offers a 105-room hotel, multiple food and beverage outlets plus expansive grounds with sweeping views – the perfect setting for weddings and events.

“We simply love this place, and always will; but it is now time for someone else to take the offering to the next level and deliver something truly wonderful for Sydney” Directors Player and Stanton said in a statement.

After its closure as an operational maritime quarantine facility in 1984, ownership of the Quarantine Station was transferred from the Commonwealth to the State Government, where it was reserved as part of Sydney Harbour National Park.

Q Station is just 30 minutes from Sydney’s CBD.

“The Mawland Group have made an invaluable contribution to Sydney by reinstating Q Station and curating experiences for thousands of guests who visit Q Station weekly, which will provide an incoming owner with the foundation to launch additional revenue generating initiatives,” said agent Andrew Jackson, National Director of HTL Property.

“This is a truly generational opportunity to acquire one of Sydney’s founding assets, offering a diverse and scaled hospitality business fronting Sydney Harbour which is irreplaceable due to its history and grandeur.”

HTL Property and CBRE Hotels are joint reps on the sale and said the site has played host to blockbuster films including Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby and Mel Gibson’s Hacksaw Ridge.

“This expansive harbour front tourism magnet enjoys the same iconic visitation status opportunity as does the Opera House or Sydney Harbour Bridge Climb,” said HTL Property managing director, Andrew Jolliffe.

“There really are no parallels for it anywhere in Australia in terms of the compelling experiential accommodation and harbourfront hospitality business mix.”

Interested parties are said to be Justin Hemmes’ Merivale Group and large hotel operator Dr Jerry Schwartz, among others.
