Bendy’s are back! Good news for lower north shore commuters after months of peak hour chaos.

Bendy’s are back (kind of!) with the first six currently due to return to service this month.

Good news for commuters with “Bendy” buses making a comeback to the northern beaches and lower north shore.
Six of the popular buses, that can carry 100 passengers, will return to the roads this month after 83 were withdrawn from service last October due to safety concerns.

Lower north shore commuters have faced outrageous delays after the removal of the Bendy Bus fleet in October 2024.
Half of the articulated vehicles were used on local routes, known as Region 8.
Since then, commuters have faced heavy delays and cancelled services, compounded by a worsening driver shortage and mechanical issues.
Last month, Transport Minister John Graham announced that 50 new diesel-powered articulated buses and 10 new double decker buses would be rolled out towards the end of 2025.

The first six are currently being repaired at a factory in Smithfield, with the rest of the vehicles due to return to the roads before the end of 2025.
“I acknowledge the loss of Sydney’s bendy buses has been a headache for passengers in areas like the northern beaches and want to thank them for their patience as we make these repairs,” Mr Graham said.
“Seeing the first buses ready to hit the road again is a welcome start. The repair program will return the majority of all those 83 bendys back to service over the months ahead.”
