Forty years of Mosman gifting comes to an end with a massive clearance sale at The Design Store.

Mosman’s homewares mecca The Design Store is closing after more than 40 years.

A popular Mosman homewares store has launched a huge closing down sale as it prepares to shut its doors after 42 years.
The Design Store, located at 682 Military Rd, promises incredible deals across a vast range of homewares from luxury brands including Laguiole, Cuisinart, Berard and Sabre.

Owner Helene Chin will farewell her time on Military Rd with a massive 30% off sale.
Proprietor Helene Chin, who purchased the landmark shop from its original owner Annemari Williams, in 2000, told Mosman Collective the closure on June 30 will be an emotional end to a “long and happy journey”.
“I feel honoured to have served the community for the past 25 years, and I’m sad to say goodbye,” she said.
“With so much construction going on around the store, it feels like the right time to shut the business down.

The Design Store is an Aladdin’s Cave of homewares at all price points, with something for everyone.
“But the good news is that I will now have more time to give back to the community in different ways, like volunteering with Meals on Wheels.”
Helene said she also intends to spend more time with her four grandchildren.

Locals can take advantage of Helene’s farewell sale on products like Chasseur, Sabre, Berard and Laguiole.

Customers can continue to support The Design Store until the end of June by snapping up more than 14,000 products at significantly reduced prices.
From Friday, May 16, everything is 30% off, excluding Bugatti electrical appliances.
“Even sale products will have 30% off the ticketed price,” Helene said.
Since its inception in 1983, The Design Store has provided bespoke gifts and homewares to a legion of loyal customers.

“There is something for everyone,” Helene told Mosman Collective.

Stock up on giftware at greatly reduced prices.
Today, it is an Aladdin’s cave of treasures, filled with kitchen appliances, pots and pans, bespoke lamp shades, glassware and cutlery, with “something for everyone at every price point”, Helene said.
“It is the shop that has provided last-minute birthday presents and hostess gifts for generations of local families,” she said.
“We have been the place that provides emergency corkscrews, beach chairs, lunch boxes, and new frypans for more than 40 years, so it really is a sad day for the Military Rd shopping strip.”

The 30% off sale starts Friday 16 May and will run until June 30.
Helene said The Design Store’s five employees – who’ve worked at the shop “for years” – will miss dealing with lower north shore shoppers, who are treated like “family”.
“Old-fashioned customer service, where everyone is treated like family, is something I am very proud of,” Helene said, “it’s the reason why we have been so successful over so many years.”
