Sydney will emerge from a 106-day lockdown on Monday, when stay-at-home orders are lifted for 5.3 million people now 70 percent of NSW residents over 16 have been double jabbed.

“The light at the end of the tunnel is now very, very close,” Prime Minister Scott Morrison said Thursday, hailing the reopening announcement.

Pubs, clubs, restaurants, and shops are ready to throw open their doors and welcome back the vaccinated, with Mosman business owners pumped to get the local economy rolling again.

Five-kilometre travel restrictions will also be lifted, although state and international borders will remain closed for now.

The reopening – described by many as “Freedom Day” – will be both “exciting and challenging” according to Tim Fallon, owner of The Buena, Mosman’s most popular pub now hustling for staff.

“We can’t wait to welcome family, friends and locals back to The Buena for proper relaxed conversations with the people we haven’t seen for so long,” he said.

“It will be liberating to have a laugh and switch off all devices!

“But, the first few weeks will be challenging as the government has put the onus on us to absolutely refuse entry to the unvaccinated.

“We understand those health orders and must comply despite the requirement making many in the hospitality industry quite uncomfortable.”

NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet fast-tracked multiple aspects of the statewide three-stage plan on Thursday, with the number of fully vaccinated people allowed at household gatherings, weddings and funerals in NSW on Monday to be double what was initially promised.
