Mosman Council has released details of an exclusive LGBTQAI+ party, to be held at the Youth Centre on The Crescent in late January.
The event is part of the summer school holiday program, offering activities for “high school aged young people – and Year 6”.
Council’s website says the Week 1 Youth Holiday Program, themed “On My Block”, will be held in conjunction with Willoughby and Ku-Ring-Gai Councils.
“We’ve joined forces with Chatswood and Gordon’s Youth Centres to deliver a week of collaborative activities,” the website says.
A basketball competition, water fights and a Nintendo Switch tournament are set for the first three days, commencing on Monday 17 January.
On Thursday 20 January, a LGBTQAI+ Block Party will be held at Mosman’s Youth Centre from 12pm – 3pm.
“Activities are for high school aged young people (& Year 6) to hang out with friends in a safe and inclusive environment,” Council’s events page says.
A spokesperson from Mosman Council told Mosman Collective the LGBTQAI+ party was decided after a call by young people for “inclusion”.
“The party for high school students is being run in collaboration with Willoughby and Ku-ring-gai councils, and will include food, music and a range of activities and games,” the spokesperson said.
“The event follows the highlighting of inclusion as one of the top three priorities for young people in Mosman and a number of similar events in previous years.
“This event is about creating safe spaces, social connection and cohesion and enabling young people from diverse backgrounds who have a higher likelihood of needing support services to connect with our teams,” the spokesperson said.
