In a remarkable rise through the ranks, a Northern Suburbs rep rugby team have been crowned state champions – just one year after finishing 15th.
The under 14s side, made up of selected players from Drummoyne, Hunters Hill, Mosman, and Norths Pirates junior rugby clubs battled it out in Dubbo to take the coveted Hawton Trophy from their Eastwood opponents.

The side battled near freezing temperatures to win in Dubbo over the Kings Birthday Long Weekend.
Over the King’s Birthday long weekend, the three-day tournament featuring 21 teams faced near freezing temperatures, with strong crowds turning out for the event.
Confidence grew early for Norths after a thrilling win over Warringah in their opening match. Strong victories over Manly Marlins and Gordon followed, allowing Norths to top their pool.
Despite a narrow loss to Eastwood in the Sydney playoff at the end of Day Two, the team remained focused and determined.

The local side beat rivals Eastwood 10-0 in the Grand Final.
On the final day, Norths defeated Southern Districts in the quarter-final and overcame Penrith in the semi-final, setting up a grand final rematch with Eastwood.
This time, Norths left no doubt, delivering a dominant 10 – 0 performance to claim the title.
The team’s success was built on fierce defence and fast-paced attack. They conceded very few tries throughout the tournament, while their forwards controlled the ruck and the backs capitalised with flair and speed.

Mosman Collective was told the team’s success was built on “fierce defence and fast-paced attack”.
A huge congratulations to all involved in this outstanding campaign.
Special thanks go to the volunteer-run Northern Suburbs Juniors Committee and to coach David Stenning for leading the team to victory.
The achievement is also a testament to the dedication of the parents and supporters who make junior rugby possible.
Go Norths!
