Mosman Council has unveiled new sporting facilities at Georges Heights.

Works designed to increase opportunities for female and mixed team sports participation have been unveiled at Georges Heights Oval.

Mosman Mayor Carolyn Corrigan and Councillors, official guests and members of local sporting clubs visited the site to view the revamped Georges Heights Oval pavilion.

Upgrades to change facilities, storage areas and a kiosk were financed by Council and the Government’s Football Legacy Fund.

The project involved upgrades to change facilities, storage areas and a kiosk.

Painting, tiling and electrical work was completed, new interior fixtures and hardware installed, and outdoor furnishings improved.

New pathways and planting were added, with the additional landscaping around the building and conversion of lighting to LED providing environmental benefits.

The upgrade was financed by Council along with funds from the NSW Government’s Football Legacy Fund, which aims to leave a legacy from the FIFA Women’s World Cup tournament to benefit all levels of football.

Mayor Corrigan said the improvements would be enjoyed by players and spectators at the popular field.

Mayor Corrigan said the improvements would be enjoyed by players and spectators at the popular field.

“The Matildas provided so much joy and inspired millions of people, particularly young women and girls, during the World Cup,” she said.

“Australian athletes are also set to entertain and enthral people across the nation as competitors at the Paris Olympics and Paralympics.

“To have an upgraded facility that provides greater accessibility for regular users and visitors to Georges Heights Oval is fantastic.

“This will also provide much-improved amenities for our local junior and senior football clubs, the cricket club and local schools.”

Middle Head is the area commonly known between Georges Heights and Chowder Bay to the headland.

Karen Jones, Chief Executive, NSW Office of Sport, said the project demonstrates the NSW Government’s commitment to support the development of football facilities in NSW following the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

“It is fantastic to see these works at Georges Heights Oval unveiled. This project not only improves the facilities, but allows increased participation opportunities amongst female and mixed team sports played at all levels.”

“We are excited to have collaborated with local government on this project, creating a lasting legacy for football following the historic 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup held right here in our own backyard.”
