Covid Closure: Penny’s shuttered until October 7.

Local business owner Dennis McDonald has confirmed Mosman’s award-winning Penny’s Quality Butchers will remain closed until October 7, after a Covid exposure on the premises last week.

A full time, front-of-house staff member tested positive for Coronavirus on Thursday 23 September.

Mr McDonald told Mosman Collective the staffer has been double vaccinated.

“The positive result came as a real shock to him – and us,” Mr McDonald said, “thankfully he’s had both jabs.”

Meanwhile, NSW has recorded nine deaths and 961 new local Covid cases to 8pm on Saturday night (27/9), as more than 85 per cent of eligible people have had at least one vaccination dose – and 60 per cent of those eligible were double-dosed.

Mr McDonald said all staff at the Military Rd store are fully vaccinated.

But, despite NSW Health giving a green light to resume trading, he will remain shuttered for the next ten days.

“We just don’t want to take any chances,” he said, “the health and safety of my staff and the local community is our only priority.

“The team are all in good spirits, despite being in isolation at home, and very much looking forward to re-opening.

“The great news is that they have all tested negative.”

A Mosman institution, Penny’s has been on the high street for more than three decades and is renowned as one of Australia’s finest butcheries.

Mr McDonald said the store has been deep cleaned in line with NSW Health procedures.

“We will have our doors open before you know it,” he said, “in fact, the book is now open for Christmas ham orders.”

Good news from Ourimbah Rd, with Four Brothers owner Mitchell Leach telling Mosman Collective all staff have returned NEGATIVE tests. The store is again operating as usual.
