Crime Latest: Have you locked up? Mosman homes burgled while residents sleep – and high performance cars are what thieves are looking for.
Police are on the hunt for a car burglary gang believed to be targeting high performance vehicles in Mosman.
Two homes in The Grove were broken into on Wednesday night while occupants slept, with Police confirming the offenders made attempts to steal a Porsche and Mercedes parked side-by-side in a secure garage.
“At 1am, the home owner was alerted when CCTV was activated after two males entered the property,” Senior Constable Michael Alexander said.
“One of the offenders had his face covered and was wearing gloves.
“They attempted to gain access to the garage, which houses two high performance vehicles, but their efforts were thwarted after the home owner called Police and the men fled on foot.”
Senior Constable Alexander said the attempted robbery was the second incident in The Grove on the same night.
“Just a few doors down and around the same time, a family slept as thieves entered their property at The Grove, through the rear laundry,” he said.
“Glass panels were removed and a wallet was stolen, but its thought an attempt may have been made to find keys to the family car.”
This follows another attempted theft of a high performance vehicle on Middle Head Rd last week.
“It is important that residents keep their car keys in a secure place, especially owners of prestige cars,” Senior Constable Alexander said.
“Many people leave their keys on the kitchen bench or near the front door and we would advise against that.”
