Sydney’s spectacular New Years Eve fireworks will attract the crowds again, following a year of Covid lockdowns.

New Year’s Eve is back with a huge fireworks display planned for Sydney to herald a fresh start for the city.

The theme this year is “See Sydney Shine” – a tribute to the resilience residents have shown during a year of Covid lockdowns.

The 9pm fireworks make a return on December 31 and organisers say the midnight show will be more spectacular than ever, with fireworks exploding from the sails of the Sydney Opera House, new colours and new effects.

New Year’s Eve falls on a Friday this year, and there’s a swag of local options if you choose to celebrate on the lower north shore. Here’s our list of where you can ring in 2022.

Blues Point Reserve

Blues Point Road, McMahons Point
A popular site with panoramic views of the western side of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House. The site fills up quickly so groups are encouraged to arrive early and together.

Bradleys Head: Amphitheatre Precinct
